How to choose and fit a child car seat correctly

Choose by the child's size and development stage, confirm the seat carries a current approval mark recognised where you live, and check that it fits your car's seats and anchorage points. Rear-facing for as long as the seat allows is widely recommended by safety bodies. The best seat is one installed tightly every time, so try fitting before buying, and never use a seat that has been in a collision or has an unknown history.

Dash cams: what rules, privacy and evidence issues apply

Dash cams are legal in many countries, but rules differ on windscreen placement, audio recording, sharing footage and data protection. Mounting must not obstruct the driver's view, and footage that identifies people may fall under privacy law, especially if published online. Footage can help in insurance claims and investigations, but it may also be requested by authorities. Check your national rules before buying.

Roof box, roof rack or towbar carrier: choosing how to carry extra loads

Roof boxes protect luggage and keep the cabin free but add height, drag and weather exposure. Roof racks suit bulky or awkward gear like bikes and boards. Towbar carriers lift heavy items to a convenient height and cut aerodynamic penalty but need a tow bar and may block the boot. Each has load limits set by the car and the product, and these limits are not negotiable.

Accessories and modifications: what to tell your insurer

Insurers generally expect you to disclose modifications that change a car's performance, appearance, value or risk, and failure to do so can lead to reduced claims or voided cover, depending on policy terms and local law. Some accessories reduce risk, such as trackers and alarms, while others raise it. This describes what to ask your insurer; it is not a statement of what any specific policy will do.
