How to choose · Solar panels
Judge installers on certification, the quality of the site assessment, equipment transparency, warranty structure and who handles grid connection and paperwork. A good quote follows a roof inspection or detailed imagery, names components, explains shading and orientation losses, and states who supports the system if the installer closes. Schemes and rules vary by country, so check your energy agency's accreditation list.
Comparison · Solar panels
For most roofs, crystalline silicon panels dominate because they balance output per area, durability and supply. Monocrystalline cells generally yield more per square metre and handle heat and low light well, polycrystalline was a cheaper trade for lower density, and thin film suits unusual surfaces or large flat roofs. Roof space, shading and warranty matter more than cell label.
Suitability · Solar panels
Suitability rests on usable roof area, orientation relative to the sun, shading through the day and the seasons, roof condition and structure, and the capacity of your electrical supply. In the northern hemisphere, roofs facing toward the equator generally collect most; east-west layouts spread generation across the day. Planning rules and heritage restrictions vary by country and locality.
Problems & fixes · Solar panels
Underperformance usually traces to weather variation against the estimate, shading that grew, soiling, inverter faults or tripping, a communication fault that hides data, or design assumptions that were optimistic. Compare like-for-like seasons, check inverter status and error codes, inspect for dirt or shade, and request the installer's modelled output and commissioning report.
